Check your reading, log a few pages or time a session from your wrist. Bookrise on Apple Watch keeps your current books, daily goal and reading streak close by.

**You'll need:** an Apple Watch with watchOS 10 or later, paired with the iPhone you use Bookrise on.

## Install the watch app

In Bookrise on your iPhone, open **Settings** → **Apple Watch** to check whether the watch app is installed. To install it:

1. Open the **Watch** app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down to **Available Apps**.
3. Find **Bookrise** and tap **Install**.

## Check today's reading

Open Bookrise on your watch. The **Today** page shows:

- Your progress toward today's goal, shown as a ring in pages or minutes.
- Your daily streak and how much is left to reach your goal.
- The book you read last, with a play button to start a session.

Scroll to **Reading** to see your current books and how far you are in each. Tap one to open it.

If there are no books yet, open Bookrise on your iPhone and set a book's **Reading Status** to **Reading**. Books are added on your iPhone; the watch shows the ones you're reading.

## Update your progress

Open the book on your watch, then choose a quick update or set exactly where you are:

- **Add a little at a time.** Tap **+ 10** to add 10 pages. For books tracked by percentage, the quick-add button adds 5%; for audiobooks, it adds 15 minutes.
- **Set your place.** Tap **Set Page**, turn the Digital Crown to the page you've reached, then tap **Save**. For percentage books and audiobooks, set the percentage read or minutes listened instead.

## Time a reading session

1. Tap **Start Reading** on a book's page, or the play button on **Today**.
2. Use the pause button whenever you need a break, then resume when you're ready.
3. Tap the stop button when you're done.
4. Turn the Digital Crown to where you stopped and tap **Save Session**.

If you don't want to keep the session, choose **Discard Session** instead.

You can close the watch app while the timer runs. It returns to the timer when you open it again, and the button on the book shows **Continue Reading**.

### Control a session started on your iPhone

If you started a session on your iPhone, **Today** shows **Reading on iPhone** and the elapsed time. Use the pause button to pause or resume it from your wrist. Your iPhone needs to be nearby for these controls to work.

## Read without your iPhone nearby

You can still time a session and update your progress when your iPhone is out of range. The book's page shows **Changes will sync when your iPhone is nearby**, and your changes reach Bookrise on your iPhone when the devices connect again.

> [!NOTE]
> Your watch uses the books and goals it last received from your iPhone. New changes from your iPhone appear when the devices are connected again.

## Add complications to your watch face

Complications are the small displays you can add to a watch face. Bookrise has three:

- **Currently Reading**: see your book and how far you've read.
- **Reading Streak**: check how many days in a row you've read.
- **Daily Goal**: follow your progress toward today's goal.

To add one:

1. Touch and hold your watch face, then tap **Edit**.
2. Swipe to the complications and tap the spot you'd like to use.
3. Choose **Bookrise** and the complication you want.

The options available depend on your watch face.
